I entered two Costume competitions in College for the Royal Opera House in London. The plays were Tosca and Sleeping Beauty. I started off by designing different costume designs and putting them in a sketch book with descriptions about the characters then created the designs on small figures.

Props Design
Props design is the career I am hoping to go into after I leave university. I want to head towards Prop Design in the Film and Television Industry. In college I made two props one for Beauty and the Beast and the other for a Masquerade play, I was also the Props Manager for a few student/college play. My responsibilities were to read through the script and highlight all the Props and Set Props for the plays then either recreate them or go out and hire them.

Prop Work- Gothic Beauty and the Beast
In College we were told to make a prop from any movie or series. I chose Beauty and the Beast but with a twist, instead of the innocent sweet Rose I wanted to put a Gothic thriller twist. I changed the colour of the rose from pink to red and put it in a black candlebra and made a black stand for it to go on. I added bloody claw marks on the side of the glass and used red latex to create the splattered blood marks around the glass and frame and put black lace on the back of the glass. On the top of the glass I wrote, 'Perhaps Beauty Is The Beast.' I wanted people to move away from the classic fairytale and think more darker into it and combined Belle and The Beast into one person.
Harry Potter Studios
I recently went on a trip to London to visit the Harry Potter Studios (Warner Bros Studios) it was very interesting and amazing to see all the props in real and learn how they were made and what they were used for. I got to see the sets and it was amazing to see how small some of the sets looked and how brilliant it was that on screen they could make it look huge and how much detail and thought had been put into them. A lot of the props looked like they were made of certain materials and look like if you would touch them they would be really heavy when really they were made of rubber or latex ect, the props had so much work and detail to them. For the character Hagrid for the scenes when he was standing next to Harry and other people a rugby player would wear a mask of Hagrids' face and costume.

My Make Up
I've always loved special effects make up and unusual make up styles and have tried since I was young to try designs out. I have done quite a few make up looks including looks from movies such as Avatar, I've done a design from one of Victoria Frances's posters and one from the House of Night Books.

Special Effects Make-up
I have loved the use of Special Effects Make-up for years and watched a load of programmes and Youtube videos on it. One of the programmes I watched was Face-Off.
On the television show the people are given a category and a model and they have a limited time to designs, sketch out then create their special effect work on their model.
